SPACE & TIME

SPACE & TIME - Art Show

Eleven emerging artists exploring the space-time continuum.

Our event listing is now up on the  Steam Whistle Brewing site!

A Study in The Relationship Between Individuals and Timezones: Time as Distance

Eleven emerging artists come together in the New Year at Steam Whistle’s art gallery, to explore the broad, fascinating topic of Space and Time. For millennium, philosophers, scientists, dreamers and mathematicians have all gazed up at the universe wondering how it works, and what meanings are hidden in the stars. The cosmos has returned no answers, only more questions, posing greater and more fascinating puzzles. We now must wonder not just who we are, but where we are, and even when we are.

Through Space and Time, these eleven artists will explore these mysteries; from the scientific to the fantastic, they draw and paint the world beyond their reach, through intricate embroidery to grand painting, and detailed story. Literal, but more often than not interpretative, they will explore the emotional and scientific implications of time travel through narrative and character. The art presented will loosely interpret theorem and scientific knowledge, as well as strive to create unique views of science fiction, and the culture that has grown around our fascination with space and time. Visions of aliens and interstellar clouds will abound along with surreal imagery. We will explore the relationship between our cultures and the imagined cultures of the future, the possibility of terraforming and all that entails. What will our future look like? What if we could change it? The possibilities are endless, and the Space and Time show will explore many of them.

Join us for the Opening Night Party, Wednesday January 5, 2011 from 7-11 pm. Steam Whistle Brewing, The Roundhouse, 255 Bremner Blvd., Toronto M5V 3M9, or visit the brewery all month long to check out the exhibition.

RSVP at our Facebook Event Page, if you're into that sort of thing.

This pic at the top is an except of a much larger picture of mine that will be in the show!

AWOL

break the law and your mothers heartI’m not really AWOL! I’m working! I’ll have things for you, soon. In May I finished my university thesis, had grad show, moved into a new house, and had a fun little mini nervous breakdown followed by a fun little mini vacation. So far in June I’ve graduated (officially, with robes and stuff) from university, and am about to take a trip to my parents house in northern Ontario for a week. I kept putting off updating here until I uploaded some of the stuff I’ve been working on or at least update my portfolio site with my thesis, but I’ve yet to hook up my scanner!

Since I know I won’t be able to update until next week, for now you can see my bad thesis at the OCAD Illustrators site, which I’m pretty sure I’ve linked before. New work in a bit!

94th OCAD Grad Show Ex

ocadillu

Anyone in Toronto this coming weekend, should, when you get sick of TCAF, come over the OCAD at Dundas and McCaull and see the OCAD grad show. The illustration display on on the 6th floor, and there is a freaking tonne of really anxiety-inducing good work there. If last years show is any indication, the advertising show should be good, too, and I’ve seen some of the foundry work by the sculpture department and there’s some really great stuff there as well.    My own display is in room 656, near the back door.  I’ll be hanging around Saturday afternoon if anyone wants to confront me.  I will be bringing my fighting words and my thinking cap (in the event of a battle of wits.)

If you can’t make it to Toronto, you can see my classes work on our website for the next year. Also, like half my classmates got into American Illustration/Applied Arts/3×3/etc etc etc annuals, so you will see us around.
