portrait of someone you physically despise.
i haven’t been drawing much, and what I have been I haven’t been scanning, because it’s either oversized or doodles of myself with my fingers amputated. But here’s some crap I did after class this evening that fits in the scanner:

So much fun but pretty stupid, I’m no Dave Mckean. Rejected photography print shredded and reassembled, black and blue ink, knife scratching, a bit of shredded sketch book paper, a tiny bit of brown gouache that had dried to my pallet, and some Morrissey lyrics. The only part of it I really like is the eye and the text: the text I thought turned out especially awesome. Oh, I’ve got a special place in my heart for pop music that glamorizes ugliness. I feel like my peeps are being represented. Homely Represent!

who’s my pretty girl?

JT Leroy : my favorite literary con-artist! He beats James Frey by like a million points: where James Fray just exaggerates a few details, JT Leroy wins by virtue of being completely and entirely fabricated!
Doing this with the thought in mind of editorial illustration. This could be in a magazine with some typography around it, right?
in unrelated news, blekkenhorst.ca is up! beautycaged.com has been retired and will expire in about a month. Please update your links!

american mythology: This isn’t a real mosaic, it’s another gouache resist
This Neo-Neo-Byzantine mosaic was unearthed by archeologists in *******AF, in **********, once the site of the fallen American Empire city of New York. The mosaic features three key figures from ancient American mythology. In the center is the god Kent, a messiah sent by his father to save humanity. On his right is the demigod Parker, a mortal gifted with god-like powers from a spider. On Kent’s left is Sir Wayne, a the Dark Knight, a mortal who nonetheless was dedicated to fighting evil in all its forms.

she’s not my soulmate

more examinations of emotionally damaging codependent relationships? The fun never stops!
I’ve still got two or three of these images from in-on-or-around christmas to put on the ‘net. I’ve been lazy about scanning stuff.

six long years i’ve been alone

based on an article and photo in McCleans magazine, “Why Do We Dress Our Daughters Like Skanks? I came to a different conclusion than the article did. (They blamed The Cheetah Girls.)
